Dr Anil Gulati

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer

Prof. (Dr.) Anil Gulati is the founder, Chairman, and CEO of Pharmazz, Inc., Willowbrook, Illinois. Dr. Gulati is a distinguished academician and Professor Emeritus at Midwestern University and the University of Illinois at Chicago. Turned biopharmaceutical entrepreneur with a remarkable track record of inventing and bringing to market first-in-class drugs addressing critical unmet medical needs. His work bridges the gap between academic research and pharmaceutical development, resulting in innovative treatments for acute ischemic stroke and massive blood loss. His lead inventions, sovateltide (Tyvalzi™) and centhaquine (Lyfaquin®), are approved and marketed in India and are currently in late-stage phase 3 clinical trials in the US, signifying their potential global impact.

He became interested in biomedical research right from childhood and started writing articles in high school. He graduated in medicine and began practicing internal medicine. However, he was more interested in medical research. He joined the Department of Pharmacology at King George's Medical University, Lucknow, India, and then got an appointment at the Central Drug Research Institute, Lucknow, India. His interest in medical research continued, and he received an offer from the University of Illinois at Chicago, Chicago, Illinois, USA. He accepted the offer and worked for about 20 years at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He was offered a Professorship and Associate Dean position at the Midwestern University, Illinois, USA. He worked at Midwestern University for about 15 years. His research became meaningful, with results that could significantly impact patients with unmet medical needs. He founded Pharmazz, Inc. in 2010, intending to translate his laboratory findings to develop novel drug products that could ultimately treat patients. In 2019, he became full-time Chairman and CEO of Pharmazz, Inc. because the Company he founded needed a lot more of his time to grow and move to the next step of translating his research to benefit patients. His ambition of bringing novel drug products to treat patients has succeeded, resulting in Sovateltide, a drug to treat cerebral stroke, and a second product, Centhaquine, to treat hypovolemic shock. These drugs are being marketed in India to treat patients. Centhaquine and Sovateltide have approved Phase 3 Investigational New Drug (IND) applications and a Special Protocol Assessment (SPA) with the US FDA, indicating significant progress in his ambition to have a global reach and make his inventions available to patients worldwide.

Founder and Leader of Pharmazz Inc.:

  • Dr. Gulati founded Pharmazz Inc. in 2010, positioning it as a late-stage biopharmaceutical company that addresses the underserved critical care market. He founded Pharmazz India Privte Limited in 2011, followed by Pharmazz EU Limited and Pharmazz UK Limited.

He is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, demonstrating strong leadership and entrepreneurial drive. He has brought a great team or people with diverse backgrounds to help build the company.

The company has two approved Phase 3 Investigational New Drug (IND) applications and a Special Protocol Assessment (SPA) with the US FDA, indicating significant progress in its drug development pipeline.

In 2023, Pharmazz Inc. and Sun Pharma entered into a licensing agreement to introduce Tyvalzi™ (Sovateltide) in India.

Pharmazz Inc. has licensed Dr. Reddy's Laboratories the right to market Centhaquine (Lyfaquin®) as a resuscitative agent for hypovolemic shock in India since March 2024.
